?TeAta,? a Play with Music, is based on the life of Chickasaw actress TeAta Thompson Fisher (1895-1995). She performed a one-woman show for more than 70 years, including presentations at the White House and for the King and Queen of England. The play dramatizes her life, going back and forth in time and place, from Broadway to back home in Oklahoma. Characters are based, in part, on TeAta?s real-life friends and family. It is a love story, a story of conflicting cultures, a story of perseverance, and a story of Oklahoma's First State Treasure.
The ?TeAta? World Premiere is funded in part by the Chickasaw Nation, the USAO Foundation and East Central University.
Production Dates: August 5-13, 2006
Location: University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO)
