Native Voices at the Autry 2009 - 2010 Call for Sc URL: www.nativevoicesattheautry.org Posted: September 04, 2008
Native Voices at the Autry is devoted to the development and production of new works for the stage by Native American writers.
2009 First Look Series
Deadline 9/15/08
Selected playwrights will be paired with professional directors, dramaturgs, and actors for an 8-hour workshop after which the play will receive a public reading at the Wells Fargo Theatre. This might be the playwright's "first look" at his/her play with an audience, Native Voices at the Autry's "first look" at a previously produced play or a new play on the road to an Equity production, or the audience's "first look" at a Native play. Original material as well as plays that have been developed or produced in other venues will be considered. Selected playwrights will receive an honorarium, round trip airfare to Los Angeles, plus lodging.
2009 Playwrights Retreat and Festival of New Plays
Deadline 10/1/08
Based on all work received by this deadline, twenty playwrights will be invited to submit Formal Proposals in order to apply to the Playwrights Retreat and Festival of New Plays. Application to this event is by invitation only; invitations will be sent at the end of October. Proposals will then be sent to a committee of nationally recognized theatre artists for further evaluation. With their help, we will select the three playwrights who will be invited to attend a weeklong retreat in June 2009 at San Diego State University and the Autry National Center where they will work with professional directors, dramaturgs, and actors. Selected playwrights will receive an honorarium, round trip airfare to San Diego, plus lodging. Selected playwrights will be notified by December 15, 2008.
